I stressed out yesterday because of all the running around I had to do today. But low and behold, and as usual, I over reacted.

All is good. I'm just relaxing tonight watching the Oilers try to get some pucks in the net.

I'm not in a good place right now with the assault on the media industry. There's so much happening all at once. I don't have a good feeling. Usually my hunches are right on the money.
I woke up this morning feeling all kinds of sore. And as the day progressed it only got worse. All day I kept thinking about this moment where I would be winding down my day with an hour of mindless TV watching.

I do not look forward to the weekend. I am working and I am exhausted. I dropped by Jean's place for a quick visit. She's heading to Phoenix tomorrow. I hadn't seen her in weeks. Plus she was baking chocolate chip cookies.

I just want to sleep now. I know though if I go to bed too early I will wake up in the middle of the night. Can't do that!

So I made an appointment with a sports therapist. I am beyond stiff. I am afraid it's only going to get worse. I didn't run today because I am in so much pain.

AHHHH!

Call display is a blessing from the gods. You're probably like me and will not answer the phone if I don't recognize the name/number. And if you recognize the name and don't want to speak to the caller.

This afternoon when I was out running errands, I received a call from someone I did not know. Since I am a reporter, I hoped it was a news tip and not a sales call.

It was neither.

You know I moved a few weeks ago but I didn't get my mail forwarded. So assuming all people are nice, I left a note and my card in the mailbox of my old apartment. I asked the new occupant to please call me if I had any mail. He didn't, of course.

He left my note and my mail on top of the mailbox. A nice guy noticed the note and my stack of mail and gave me a ring.

What a nice guy! The envelopes were all bills save for one (which I paid). I am just blown away how nice this guy was.

This was the highlight of my day.

A saint in our office?

VATICAN CITY - A 19th-century Belgian priest who ministered to leprosy patients in Hawaii will be declared a saint Oct. 11 at a Vatican ceremony presided over by Pope Benedict XVI.

The Rev. Damien de Veuster's canonization date was set Saturday during a meeting between Benedict and cardinals at the Apostolic Palace.

De Veuster will be canonized along with three other people, the Vatican said.

Let the Saint Damien jokes begin. Sorry Damien... this makes me laugh....

sundin is still an ass

Hockey Day in Canada is my favorite day ever.... I have barely left my couch. After last night's festivities, I need the rest. I had a great run with Terri this morning - outside.

Just when I have gotten used to the damn treadmill, it's almost time to head back outdoors. But I shouldn't complain. I can't wait until the day I look out my window and all I see is green not white.
Can you catch a cold over the phone?

My friend Lisa has been sick for the last few days. I feel like her flu bugs have reached into the phone and dispersed their germs here in Grande Prairie.

My head is aching. And I thought I was going to puke when I finished running tonight (3.5 miles). Please, please, please, I don't want to be sick.

I have too much to do this weekend. I can't deal with the headaches and the low energy.

Cross your fingers.

sometimes you have to go over the heads of those above you

Ian locked himself and Nick out of their office yesterday. But that's not the best part.

After the lame jokes and ribbing subsided (about an hour), Ian's saviour arrived.

The unlikely hero - Christopher - stepped up to the plate. It was funny because everyone (myself excluded) claimed he or she was an expert at picking locks. Yet the door remained locked.

My money was on the midget but he was still in court.

Jeff jokingly said, we should hoist Christopher or Jeanne up (the lightest reporters in the office) and he or she could go in through the ceiling. ( Jeff got the idea from the Matrix?) Jeanne flatly refused.

Our hero arrived shortly after this comment. Little did we know the young Christopher would seize the opportunity and prove he is the man in the office.

mended fences can still break

I love this fence. Sometimes unpainted fences or fences were the paint has chipped off make the most impact. Colour always inspires me.

I say this as I stare at my openingly bare walls. I need to hang some photos or some artwork. The problem is choosing.

There was a death in my extended family this weekend. Everyone is pretty upset. I'm sad too.

What else should I be? All Apologies

My D80 has hypothermia. And I am not far behind. I'm sorry. I shouldn't have taken her out on such a bitterly cold day. In my defense, it looked nice and sunny from my balcony. Maybe I should have checked the temperature. My walk was too ambitious. I left at 3:30 only to return two hours later with little feeling in my fingers.

All things broken

The tally – 1 plate, 1 wine glass and 1 thingy on exercise bike. This doesn't include the incident where I mistakenly tried to break into another apartment, which I thought was mine. Or the shower head which sprays water all over the place when I turn on the tub tabs.

But things broken can be things fixed. When I was out taking pictures this afternoon, several things caught my attention. A man walking up a steep hill with a broken leg. A broken piece of glass on the road. The leg will mend, of course but not the glass. Strange somethings are just meant to remain unfixed.

Just like relationships. I don't have to tell you what day it is today. You've probably seen enough people in and out of the shops with flowers and candy with dazed looks on their faces.

So happy vday to all of you love birds!

Okay so while away I took a zillion photos. I'll post them here and there when I remember. I'm really drained today. I should have stopped at one glass of wine last night. I was just so damn thirsty. Water is better for me.

We have Monday off so I should make plans. More likely I'll just play it by ear. I really ought to get my apartment sorted out.
So love is all around me. I have a small circle of "friends" here. And so their love lifes are fodder for my amusement. I am happy for my friend Pete, who had a date tonight. He's such a great guy. I hope the best for him. He would make an awesome bfriend.
Then there's Damien. He hasn't had much luck as of late. But he is a great guy. I think he'll find that girl who is right for him. He's young stil - only 27 - so he has lots of time to find his soulmate.

Valentine's day is Saturday. I am happy for everyone who celebrates it. Although I am a dedicated single, I love romance. Darrell, I won't ruin your surprise. I hope Debi is excited! For you guys truly are romantic. I promise not to give away your surprise.

walking on broken ice

Haibo and Lisa Huang were visiting from Edmonton. The company, he worked for paid for its workers to enjoy a weekend in the snow.

The Maligne Canyon Icewalk was truly spectacular. We loved it. Nature truly knows its job.

kids and puppies

A little girl, Catriona, 9, from Beaumont, B.C. took a real shining to the puppies. She's telling Michel, our driver, all about the dogs. Cute. I think she had only been at the camp for 10 minutes.

Wow!

This is what we saw on our way out of the Town of Jasper. I was so excited. I heard the elk walk through town. I was disappointed not to see them. Sara, calmly allowed me to have my fun. She was at the wheel but she wouldn't let me get out of my car to get a better shot. Spoil sport!

On Tippy and Oden.....

We had a wonderful day! We were on the moving most it... either by car or by dog sled. But it was awesome. Dogsledding wasn't as scary and fast, like we envisioned it would be.

Our dog team rocked. They had names like Oden, Tippy and Nitrous. The scenery was as perfect as those you seen the postcards. I wish we had a few more days to take in more of it. My love affairs always begin with mountains. It's going to be awesome to go back this summer to see the difference. Mentally, I have already planned four hiking trips. Join me if you can.

We made it! Despite a few mishaps on the highway, we got into Jasper around 10 p.m. last night. Yes, a long time - probably an hour longer than it should have taken. Yes, I was driving. And that's all I am going to say about the drive.

We went on the Maligne Canyon Icewalk this morning, and a Wildlife Safari this afternoon. Now it's time to unwind. We're probably going to take it easy and hang out at the hot tub.

We rise even earlier tomorrow to go dogsledding.

Just yesterday I wore my sneakers. It's back to wearing my boots today. The kicker is I have to drive to Jasper this afternoon. I hope it stops snowing. I hope it stops snowing now.

rainbow coalition reaches my desk, oh yes, it is true

This just in.

A new colour study claims red can make a person's work more accurate. While blue can make a person more creative.

Strange that I am reading about this study now (inbetween glances at the TV of another pitiable Sens show). Earlier in the day, I made a declaration of my own.

I said loud enough for Terry and Nick to hear (which wasn't very loud because they are within normal speaking voice earshot).... that I was done with those ugly plain tan file folders. I needed colour in my life. I am an artist.

I headed straight to the source of my solution – Phyllis, the one who orders all things office.

I said, "Phyllis, help me. I can't do my job unless I have colour." After I dried my tears, Phyllis took me by the hand and led me to where she kept the coloured folders.

It was like she read my mind. I am happy now.

And you thought you could get away

The all-knowing Google has added a new feature that allows users to share their locations among a chosen network of friends.
In plain terms, the opt-in service uses data from mobile phones to find a person's location.

I don't really understand how it works but I do understand you can switch off the feature on your phone. Also, the program is not compatible with all cellphones.

This from Google:

"The new software released Wednesday will enable people with mobile phones and other wireless devices to automatically share their whereabouts with family and friends.
The feature, dubbed "Latitude," expands upon a tool introduced in 2007 to allow mobile phone users to check their own location on a Google map with the press of a button.
"This adds a social flavor to Google maps and makes it more fun," said Steve Lee, a Google product manager.

Honestly, I don't know if fun is the right word. Maybe the correct word would be "scary."

Oh how Big Brother keeps getting closer.

there is strength in numbers

This is a get well card.

Get well Jean Skip. Poor Jean has been nursing a ghastly cold for the last week.

Quick everyone at once yell, "Get better soon!"

Thanks!

She'll appreciate your good wishes.

Man’s search for beloved pet pays off

I wrote this for our daily today. Read it. This story has a happy ending.

The Bonanza resident who put up an astounding $10,000 reward for his missing pooch was reunited with his dog, Tucker, Monday afternoon.

Lance Hingley, 54, said he got his life back when Tucker jumped into his arms after he handed over the reward to the man whom he believes snatched his 15-month-old dog.

“I am so happy,” he said. “When I put that reward up of $10,000, I said it would be anonymous. I am not going to give the man’s name out. He’s going to have to live with that.”

Two days before Christmas, the miniature Shi Tzu-American Eskimo went missing near Dawson Creek, B.C., when Hingley, a bulk fuel agent, had stopped for a quick bite to eat.

Since losing his beloved pet, Hingley launched a mind-boggling search and rescue quest, including creating a missing dog website and Facebook groups, to track down his abducted dog.

Missing dog posters were plastered all over the B.C. interior, from Kamloops to the Peace Country.

“I just wanted my dog back,” said Hingley, who travels quite frequently with his work.

On Jan.30, he was in Kamloops putting up posters when he received a tip from a caller.

The caller said he had Tucker. Hingley said the caller described Tucker to a “T” so Hingley got his hopes up. When he asked where the caller was, the line went dead.

Hingley redialed the number from his call display on his phone but the number came up private.

Through a little detective work, including some research on the Internet, Hingley learned the call originated from a phone booth at an Esso station in Peace River.

Monday morning, Hingley headed to Peace River and plastered the small town with more posters.

At 11:40 a.m., he received another call from the same man.

“I said, ‘hey buddy, you don’t hang up this phone. You need to talk to me.’ ”

Hingley told the man Tucker was one of his kids and he wanted his dog back. The man agreed to hand over the dog for the reward. They met a few hours later at the Dunvegan Inn in Fairview.

“I gave him the money and I took my dog,” said Hingley, who estimates he spent up to $25,000 in the search for Tucker.

“He told me he had been sleeping at the weigh scales and woke up to a dog whining. He opened the door and it was Tucker.”

Hingley said Tucker had jumped in the truck because the temperatures were hovering below -40C. The man told Hingley he thought the dog was abandoned.

“His excuse was someone was not looking after him so he kept him but finally returned him for the money.”

Hingley said he will not call the police.

“I am a man of my word and I got what I wanted,” said Hingley. “He needs to sleep at night. That’s up to him.”

Hingley hopes the dog napper will donate half of the reward to SPCA in Tucker’s name.

go on take a picture... puppies and babies are the easiest to shoot (I mean that in a photography sort of way)

Congrats to Wanda Lee. Our wonderful circulation manager popped out her second child less than a week ago. Her name is Zoe. I like babies. They are too cute. Her mom, came in from Dildo, Nfld to help out.

I am not making it up. Dildo is an actual place in Newfoundland. It's a small town on the southeastern shore. It is about 100 kms northwest of St. John's. There's something you didn't know. Go ahead, type "Dildo,Nfld" in Google. I know you want to.

Even grandpa smurf... I mean Terry likes babies... Look he's just about to play peek-a-boo with Zoe. The innocence of babies bring out the gentle side of even the hardest nosed sports editor.
And so I am super busy this week – as usual. But I wouldn't have it any other way.

I got to interview the Sens new head coach which is fitting in so many ways.

1) the Sens are one of two teams I love to hate (the Leafs are by far the team I love to hate the most)

2) I'm an Ottawa girl

3) I don't really care about Sens (is that the same as #1?) and I didn't gush on the phone like the other reporter from Cranbrook who tried to butter up Clouston with his "congrats coach"

Okay so three is not many but that's all I can of right now.

I am still hungry. I ate a light dinner after my run. I still need to eat but I am too spent to cook. Oh well breakfast is only 10 hours away!

I had my first lunch date at my new apartment. Sara stopped over and I whipped up some tasty spring rolls. I made Sara work for her lunch as she expertly put my lamp together.
I'm watching the Super Bowl with Lisa. Right now the lame Canadian commercials are showing so I am not missing much.

I am all moved in. Sorry I haven't posted any pictures yet. Just wait until I am all settled my apartment is more decorated. I am emotionally and physically drained. It's been a long three days. And now back to work tomorrow.

I want the Cardinals to win. Knock on wood.
