Sometimes I really hate coming home to an empty apartment. Generally I like the silence after a busy day. But tonight I am feeling a little lonely. Don't worry, I will get over it. I am not depressed. Just would like a little company.
I had a really good weekend. I think maybe I am just coming down from the weekend's high. I didn't run tonight because I have the police scanner. I am going to get a long run in tomorrow before my school board meeting.
Fall really is my favourite time to run. The colours of the leaves are absolutely beautiful. Terri and I had a great time yesterday just walking and breathing in the fresh air. I wish I could do that everyday.
How do you turn your eyes from the romantic glare?
Terri and I sent a great afternoon at Cutbank Falls. It was really great to just hike in and enjoy the day. The colours of the day were amazing. I took a zillion pictures of Terri. I won't post all here but when I get the time, I will post a few more and more photos from the Bog race. All in all, a great weekend.

I tried to do the fast waterfall effect. I couldn't get my Shutter any slower than this. I think it worked but could be better.
I took this quick shot en route to Cutbank Falls. Really simple but beautiful nonetheless. Don't ya think? |
Meeting the Bogman
I entered the Bezanson Bog race. It's part of the Wolves Cross Country Series It's a short distance - 6k but I am looking forward to the challenge. It's not a road race. It's through the mud, bog and moss. Lana said be prepared to get dirty. I am so prepared! It's going to be awesome. I am bringing my camera so expect lots of pictures later in the day. The race is at 12:30 p.m. but I am leaving earlier so I can find the spot. It's a bit past Bezanson at the Bezanson Townsite. I am crossing my fingers it will be a great day to drive.
A typical Friday night
I planned to run 14k to get that heavy feeling of veggie burger and fries out of my system. I won a four-person lunch at a local bar this week. I never win anything so it was quite exciting. I was thankful there was the veggie option on the menu because you know how bars are with the meat-based menus. It was fun though. Sara from Free, Amber and Carleigh joined me. I had invited Joel but he doesn't get let out of his cage for lunch.
I ran to Wedgewood and it started to rain. I wasn't feeling running another 7k in the rain so I ran to Jean's house to make it 8k for the night. I felt better though. At Jean's place, I set her up with Twitter and cooked her brown rice. Then she drove me home.
I ran a short 5k run tonight on a growling belly. Take it from me, it's not that much fun. I was deathly ill yesterday. I soldiered on and made it through the day. I seriously considered texting in sick today but I miraculously felt 90% better this morning.
It's tough being sick when you're single. You have nobody to bring you soup or liquids. I felt pretty sorry for myself. As usual, my wuzzle, Rhinokey, was a great listener.
And for the exciting news.... I won a free lunch for me and three friends at the Basement. It's not very vegetarian friendly but it's free lunch! We're going on Friday.

20k run in south end of Grande Prairie
| The guys pose after our 20 km run. It was very cold this morning. You really felt it when you stopped. Tammy was missing for the photo but she and Stella did the distance. Next Sunday, we're scaling back our distance because of the Bezanson Bog and Fall Classic. I felt great throughout the run. Even better when it was over! |
The best therapy I get is from hugging a tree
I really needed to hug a tree. Went out last night and drank too much and behaved silly. I missed my hike today because I was still feeling the pain at 8 a.m. Richard was nice enough to give me some company on my walk. I brought my little point and shoot so I could take some pictures if I felt inspired. It truly was a beautiful day.
10-mile run with Amber and H-Dog
What's on your playlist?
I purposely programmed 45 minutes of music on my iPod. I wanted a short run and didn't want to run longer than an hour. I plan to run 16k with Amber tomorrow, hike on Saturday and run 20k on Sunday. I don't want to push my body too much.
This is what I ran to:
1. Me and Bobby McGee, Joan Jett
2. Happy, Leona Lewis
3. Harvest, Neil Young
4. Better man, Pearl Jam
5. Start me up, Rolling Stones
6. Mr. Loverman, Shabba Ranks
7. Fiddlers Green, Tragically Hip
8. Doin' it, LL Cool J
9. Reggae Mix, Various Artists
10. Tennessee, Arrested Development
It wasn't exactly 45 minutes so I had to repeat #1. It was a great run!

A list of things I would like to do
I just finished watching an episode of Mad Men. Gosh I love that show. Anyway, Don Draper mentioned a list of things he'd like to do. That reminded me I haven't made any "wish lists' in quite some time. I've become complacent.
So it's a short list of things I'd like to do:
1. So on my birthday, I am turning 38 so I am going to run 38k. Only two months away.
2. Need to get to Edmonton for a CFL football game. Joel said he would go with me. I just need to pick a game and figure out when our schedules would work.
3. Mini-road trip. I haven't gone anywhere this summer except out of town to run. It's starting to get cold so I better figure this out soon.

I really want to go to Vegas now. Tammy and Lana have me nearly convinced. Bret Michaels at the finish line is so much more than icing on the cake. I haven't made my mind up yet. Still playing things by ear. I am waiting to hear about a few things before I decide any trips.
My run was fun yesterday. I really didn't think I would be able to run because of my lack of sleep. It was tough because of work too. But so glad I went out. Next week, the 20k, may come a little easier with my anticipated "get-caught-up-on-sleep" Thursday.
The plan is to hike Hamel on Saturday. I am crossing my fingers, we go up this time. It's been a few weeks now since I've gone hiking. And I really need to get some perspective on a few personal things. The mountain air is ever so calming.

After the 18k jaunt
Our 13 Mile and Higher group has tripled in membership. We had a great run. I was hurting a bit at the end of the day but it was great to have so many people to run with. We saw lots of runners and walkers out on this nice fall day. From left to right, Stella the pooch, Ashley, Tammy, me, Lana and Dalton. Karen is missing.
saturday night
Sometimes I just want someone to cook for me. I didn't really need to eat out. I've been trying to stay away from the restaurants (all four of them) and eat better. I had a half-order of the veg chow mein with tofu. The lady who owns the shop is so friendly. She knows my order and always brings chopsticks.
I also love green tea. Very much. My friend likes the green onion cakes. I never liked them. In Korean, they are called "panjon." I never liked them when I lived in Asia too.
iFixit and into the void
I read an interesting article from the National Post yesterday about this new "movement" of purging. People are getting rid of all their junk in hopes of living a more simple life. Call it your anti-consumer movement.
I hate stuff. Don't get me wrong, I love my BB and my MacBook Pro and my Garmin... but it's just all the other junk. I could probably live out of my car. Lately I have been purging. My rooms are becoming emptier. The space and nothingness is calming.
A guy in the California runs iFixit, this cool website. Mostly, it's for repair guides for Apple products. The mission statement is "we believe that the easier it is to fix something, the more people will do it. The only way to keep hardware out of the landfills is to increase the useful lifespan of our stuff."
He wants people to submit their own repair guides too. It's kinda like Wiki but for repair guides.

Weekend is going good so far. Knock on wood. I write that now and all heck will break loose tomorrow. It's been a beautiful fall day. Makes working on the weekend that much more tolerable. I don't like to race around in miserable weather... makes me grouchy.
A few others have joined our 13 mile and higher Sunday morning group. I hope I have the energy to keep up. I haven't run since Monday. Should be fun though and will make the pain more bearable.....

As you can probably tell by the lack of my posts, I've had a busy week. It all started Tuesday. I stayed up way too late Monday and never got caught up on my Zzzzs. And it was a short week.
I'm on call all weekend so it's going to be tough to stay on the mark. I have a light sked tomorrow so I aim to make the best of it - by getting ahead of next week's schedule.
I also haven't run since Monday. I feel more and more like a cow everyday. We're going to run 18k on Sunday so that's going to be a real test. I hope I can get my legs moving.

13 mile and higher running group
Lana and Laverna stretch our 16.5k run. Laverna was a little tight after running the 10k Don't Get Lost in the Woods yesterday. We had a really great run. Our pace was great and we stayed away from the park. We ran from Starbucks down to Range Road 668 (the back way). There wasn't a lot of traffic so we were able to run easily.
I quite enjoyed exploring another part of town. We ran in an area I have never been before. Next week, I think we may try another new route or the same with a few kilometres tacked on. I am thinking about joining the Walk Run & More training group. The first group run is tomorrow. I am not planning on running the marathon. I just want to do the distance. The group run will force me to get my butt moving longer.
I am just back from a run. It's probably the best run I have had in a long time. While it is slightly windy and grumpy out, I found the conditions perfect for a run. I ran 11k but I felt I could just keep going. I am running 16k with Lana and Laverna in the morning so I didn't want to push it.
Every time I ran up a hill, I turned around and did a repeat. I didn't feel no pain. Truth be told, I am trying to get rid of the extra calories I consumed last night. I even went for a walk in the morning. I had two beers, fries and some garlic sticks. I am such a heifer.

I am into Day 2 of the long weekend. I haven't done much of anything. But that's fine with me. I had a lovely dinner with Jean and Carleigh at Prairie Sushi.
Tomorrow I am going to go for a long drive. Maybe Peace River. Maybe somewhere else. I want to just drive somewhere. I took a rest day from running. I did a power walk this morning to get my blood flowing. It was really windy.
Carleigh is dragging me out to Better than Freds to listen to Celeigh Cardinal. I don't mind because she's the best local talent here (in my opinion). Very powerful voice.

I laugh. I learn.
Grande Prairie has one bike lane in the "city." City crews finished upgrading this road a month or so ago. It's quite funny. There's a bike lane on this one street. And it's not even that long. I have never seen anyone use the lane. It's great but more are needed. Perhaps the whole street? Maybe a whole neighbourhood or the whole "downtown."
Grande Prairie is technically a city because it is over 10,000 people or something like that. It's really a sensitive issue to the long time residents. When I refer to GP as a "town," I get the smack down.
I didn't feel like running in the park or along Resources so I ran circles around my neighbourhood for 45 minutes. It really kept me going because I had to keep an eye on traffic and plot my next corner.
It was a nice change. I need to find new routes. But I hate driving to a spot in order to run. I need a little adventure.
I am glad I took an extra day to myself this weekend. Hiking didn't pan. So I don't know what I am going to do now. Most likely, I'll stay close to home and get some projects done.
back to pink
So last thing when I couldn't sleep I kept messing around with the design of my blog. As you can see, it's back to the way it has been for awhile. I have to add a few more boxes and it should be back to normal.
I was messing around with different templates. I forgot to save this one. I finally found it after searching for about an hour. I don't feel like customizing it any further right now.
It's my day off and I have plans!

It's my day off and I have plans!
I am in the middle of one of those nights where I can't sleep. Okay it's only 12:30 a.m. but I can't settle down enough to sleep. I am not even the least bit sleepy.
I guess I could read some more. My mind keeps wandering. It's been one of those days where even my skin feels out of place. Restless. Again.
I took Friday off. I wanted an extra long weekend to get my stuff together. I have been slowly cleaning out my apartment. I gave my couch away last night. I will organize a closet and give away more stuff tomorrow.
Reducing the clutter sets me at ease.
